Women have always been baffled by men’s apparent inability to follow through on a promise made to a woman. Case in point; Man tells you that he’s going to call you at 7 pm. Remember the saying “truth hurts, don’t it?”? I’m sure has been told that at one point or another. Feeling are hurt just as much when a man promises a woman one thing and then does exactly the opposite. That’s not okay in anyone’s book. Good relationships begin with trust and honesty. This means that when involved with someone no matter on what level, love or friendship you should try never to hurt their feelings on purpose. Realistically we know that all relationships have problems, but why create something that is not there?

Get ready

If would be wonderful if that didn’t change; that we would always say positive things about our partner. But life doesn’t work like that. Sooner or later things change, for better or worse.

I’m over first dates (not internet dating). I mean, I love them and all but seriously, with all the build-up and the pressure and the uncomfortable shoes and the billions of articles (hides head in shame) written about how to go about pulling off the best first date ever; it’s all a big to do about just one night. And it’s my new opinion that the first date isn’t the most important.

Obviously the first date is something special. It’s the “first impression” phase of a potential new relationship. The third date, at least in my experience, is where we give our new sweetie a peek at our sexy unmentionables. Having said that, these days anything goes; from first date to wedding night. But all things considered, the third date appears to be “date rush” night.

The date that comes in between one and three (that would be number two!) really doesn’t get the attention it deserves. In my opinion, the second date is where you discover the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. First date jitters are a memory; you’re more relaxed and less nervous than the first time around. More importantly, even though there is a mutual attraction, the overwhelming thoughts of sex are usually on the back burner. The newness of it all though make this date exciting!

The second date hits the sweet spot. To make sure that you are making the most of this special and underrated event, here’s a handy checklist:

Put your listening ears on

First of all, relax and be prepared to listen. You obviously did well on the first date or you wouldn’t be here for a second date. So settles your nerves and put your brain back in gear. You need to focus less on making yourself look good and focus more on being genuinely interested in the other person. Listen, and take the information you’re given to heart. Allow it to make the person across from you become more complete.

Up your flirting

This is the time to flirt it up, just don’t get too serious about it. Why do you need to flirt it up on the second date? Because too often people allow themselves to slip into “friend” mode. So you’d better be creating some sexual undertones otherwise your date will get the wrong impression.

If you want your date to believe that all you want is friendship, good enough. But I’m guessing you don’t; so flirt it up and make your intentions clear.

Ignore all boxes

This is no time for preconceptions. Not about yourself, the other person or even this fledging relationship. Let’s face it you’ve only been out together once, so you don’t know who this person is yet. Nor do they have any real idea of who you are. Your “relationship”, if it could even be called that, is way too new to be put into a neatly labeled box.

Habits are hard to break. And no habit is harder to break than spending all your time with your new sweetie. When he announces that on Friday he’s going out for a night with the guys. It Will Remind Him What He Has

There is such a thing as over romanticizing something; be it an event or a relationship. You know you’re the best thing to have happened to your guy since dry cleaning; and he knows it too. But remember your freshman year of college and that unbearable roommate that you had? Now that you’ve been out of college for awhile, you probably long for those days sometimes don’t you? When your guy has no opportunity to even look at other single women, it just makes him wish for times that probably weren’t all that great to begin with.

If ever there was a time to gather all your self confidence, this would be it. If your relationship suffers from trust issues, then you need to work them out, pronto. Relationships built on trust and commitment can withstand an occasional evening when the partners go their separate ways to go out with friends to engage in some harmless flirtation with others.

Inevitably when your guy hits the bars with his buddies he’ll be looking at, possibly talking to and maybe even flirting with other women. Keep a lid on; if your relationship is solid he’ll just be reminded of what a great catch you are. All the other women will simply pale in comparison and he’ll be all the more excited when he gets home to see you.

Earn points with his friends

Men in relationship have male friends; those male friends detest the woman who won’t let their pal off the hook without her. This is small stuff, so go with the flow and don’t sweat it. You’ll score brownie points for yourself with his friends. To most men, this means a great deal.

Comment, oh so innocently, that you appreciate his consideration but at the same time you really won’t be bothered if he has to answer to the phone to deal with “work” related stuff. No introduction to his friends and family

Lots of guys are slow to introduce new girls to the other important people in their lives. And I kind of like that. It means, when it does happen, that you are part of a special selection and not just one of many who all go through this. However, if you’ve been dating someone for months and they still don’t take your relationship out on dry land, it’s not unreasonable to think that maybe you aren’t the main girl in the other parts of his life because someone else already is.

He has a shower prior to leaving your place

He has his own shower, doesn’t he? So why can’t he use it; why does he have to use yours? Because he needs to make a clean exit, that’s why. He doesn’t want to get to where he’s going smelling like you. It’s that simple.
