How To Recover Deleted Files Easily

Many people start seriously thinking about how to recover deleted files after they have lost one. It is usually at the moment the file has disappeared and the lights start to fade that one thinks that there must be some way to recover the file. But, after losing a huge research project or long paper, that’s usually as far as it goes before panic begins to set in.

But, before starting to write a resignation letter or thinking up a reason for not having the project completed, take a moment to try some recovery tips that may help.

The only time that something is really and truly gone from a computer is when it has been overwritten by other data. Basically what has happened is that your document or file has lost it’s name tag. If it were a party or function with lots of people, you’d track down a person who lost their name tag and give it back to them. Well, that is your challenge. You’ve got to find that little bugger and give them their name tag back to be able to work with them again.

All that happened when your screen went blank, or there was a power surge, is that your file or document ripped off its little name tag and slipped into the crowd. It’s there and, until the computer decides to put information over it, will stay there, waiting to be found. So, first do the easy things.

It’s easiest to start with the obvious places and work forward. Go to the recycle bin and see if it slipped in there. Next go to the history folder and see if it’s in there. After that go to the recent folder. Now with the recent folder. Different systems call the recent folder different things. You might have to check out your help directory if you can’t find the recent folder and see what it is called. Check out the TEMP folder next. There are usually two of these folders and you’ll want to check both. When it’s not in any of those places do a system search for *. ASD and if it was auto-saved at any time when you were working on it, the last auto-saved copy will be there. Click on it, and click open (nothing happens). Reboot your system, open the program you were working in and a recovery option box will show up on the left with the folder.

If you want to save some time in the searching for files department and you lose a lot of files, you may want to get a recovery software program. There are programs available that are free and some have a cost. It totally depends on the types of files you lose and how often you lose them as to how much money you want to invest in a software recovery program.
